Homestead Winery's History

Homestead Winery is the oldest continually operating winery in the Red River valley. Homestead began when Gabe and Barbara Parker decided to expand the farming tradition that was originated by Gabe's grandfather back in the 1800s. In 1983, traditional wheat and corn were replaced by grapes and the vineyard at Ivanhoe was started. The great Cabernet Sauvignon grape does extremely well in the sandy Ivanhoe soil.Wines that won an award
By 1986 the desire to produce their own wines was still burning and the winery was officially off the ground. In 1989 the winery was bonded and the first vintage was produced. Today, production continues to expand and grapes are also purchased from other growers to produce the wide varieties of wines that Homestead offers. The winemaking is under the direction of Dr. Roy Mitchell.

The Denison tasting room is continuing to expand in the historic downtown area. Sherry, Port, and Red Wine are scheduled for production at the facility, while major crush and winemaking operations are still located at the vineyard and winery in Ivanhoe. We also have a tasting room located in Grapevine, Tx. Where you welcomed to experence a country charm and atmosphere.
